Empowering change empowering Tech

When it comes to smartphones, there always seems to be a battle between Apple and Samsung. Every time it seems like there are two similar phones from both brands going head to head in the market. The Samsung Galaxy S7 is currently up against Apple’s iPhone 6S. The S7 has emerged victorious to be among the best Android smartphones, even against the Note 5, Sony’s Xperia Z5 and the outgoing 6S.

Although the iPhone 7 is expected to replace the 6S soon, the competition between it and the Galaxy S7 remains stiff in the months leading up to launch. Of course, there are so many stakes in the competition with some of the obvious phone features like battery life, display, body quality, design, performance, and even camera features in each. . When you take a closer look at these features, it’s easy to tell if the Galaxy S7 is a perfect alternative to the iPhone 6S.

Performance

Processor

The Galaxy S7 has a custom 2.3GHz octa-core Exynos 8890 chipset and 4GB of RAM, while the iPhone 6S has a 1.8GHz dual-core A9 processor and 2GB of RAM. This certainly makes the S7 sound powerful, but the 6S puts up a good fight. For example, when it comes to gaming experiences where both run at convincing speeds, regardless of the difference.

Battery duration

The S7 seems to take the lead here. When tested in continuous video playback at 170 cd/m2 screen brightness, the S7 lasted 17 hours and 48 minutes, while the 6S lasted 11 hours and 18 minutes. So the S7 will last you longer even when under heavy use and seems more reliable.

Performance-wise, the iPhone 6 may offer faster graphics and single-core CPU performance, but the S7’s superiority in battery life remains more important.

build and design

Materials

The front and back of the S7 are covered with Gorilla Glass and it also has a metal frame. The 6S, on the other hand, has a chassis that is all metallic aluminum. So the 6S has no issues when it comes to picking up fingerprints like the S7, but it lacks a MicroSD slot from S7, so upgrading storage capacities isn’t possible. Both phones have a fingerprint reader, but the S7’s reader is pretty temperamental. However, the dustproof and waterproof nature of the Samsung S7 makes it more exciting because it can survive 30 minutes submerged in water. Toilet drips are therefore less of an issue with the S7 compared to the iPhone 6S.

Dimensions

The Galaxy S7 measures 142 x 70 x 9mm and the iPhone 6S is much smaller at 138 x 67 x 7.1mm. It means that the S7 is a few millimeters wider and taller than the 6S and weighs slightly more at 152g and the 6S at 143g. In build and design, the S7 wins again.

As for the screen, the S7 has a technically superior screen, but the 6S’s 3D touch is just as useful, so they build on this. The S7’s camera delivers better images than the 6S, so it’s definitely another win for the Galaxy smartphone.
