Many people think that Valentine’s Day is a holiday only for adults and teenagers. The thing is though, Valentine’s Day is also marketed to kids and they are learning about it in school. Because of this, your children may want to celebrate the holiday with you. You certainly don’t want to leave them out of your plans, so you’ll need to make arrangements to make sure you spend time with your kids and get a little alone time with your spouse. This might take some creative planning, but it can be done.

The first thing to keep in mind is that your night will basically be split up. The first half is all day and the night before bedtime for children. After that it’s time for the adults. While you may have wanted to go out to dinner, taking the kids to a fancy restaurant may be out of the question. After all, many people are trying to have their romantic dinners. If there’s a buffet or something open, that might be a great place to take the kids, otherwise you’re probably eating at home.

Bake some cookies together, make a cake, create valentines together, and maybe even watch a movie or two. Do everything you can to make sure your children have fun with the holiday so they can grow up and appreciate the holiday for what it is. Once the kids are fast asleep, it’s time for some adult time. This is when romantic movies can break out.

If you can get someone to come sit with your kids for an hour, you can even take a late-night walk around the neighborhood. Even if it’s a bit chilly outside, the walk probably isn’t something you do often and can be very romantic. Once you’re back home, you might want to jump in the hot tub or run a warm bath to share with others. Give yourself a massage and make sure you have the lights off with candles on or at least have the lights dim.

When you make an effort to plan your Valentine’s Day, you’ll find it’s certainly easy to share the day with your kids. It can almost be like having two separate vacations in one day. The first part is fun and full of laughter and children running around the house. The second part is romantic and slower paced. Whatever you do, be sure to create lasting memories.
