The true beauty of Mussorie and its neighboring hills and of course the majestic Himalayas can best be seen from Gun Hill. Being the second highest point, it offers one of the most panoramic views of the Shiwalik Ranges from Mussorie. One can walk along a path to reach Gun Hill or take the 400 meter long cable car. The highest peak in Mussorie is called Children Lodge. It is located about 5 kilometers away and offers a breathtaking view of the Shiwalik mountain range. However, the best part of this peak is getting there. One can take a pony ride up to this peak and enjoy the wonderful view along the way.
Kempty falls is a huge waterfall located in a beautiful valley, approximately 15 kilometers from Mussorie. It is surrounded by beautiful hills that make it a perfect sight. The water forms a small pool at the bottom of Kempty Falls and the experience of taking a dip in this natural pool with such beautiful surroundings is incomparable. Although in high season this place receives too many tourists. Located in Bhatta, which is approximately 7 kilometers from Mussorie, is the Bhatta Falls. You can hire a taxi or take a bus to Bhatta and then walk the next 3 km. This jump not only has natural pools but also water fun. Mussorie has ample places to walk. An example of this is the Jharipani Falls, located approximately 8 kilometers from Mussorie. The last stretch of 1.5 kilometers to this waterfall must be covered on foot. Mosey falls is another picturesque waterfall situated in dense forest located approximately 7 kilometers from Mussorie.
Approximately 5 kilometers from Mussorie is Mist Lake, which has boating facilities and is a great picnic spot. The municipal garden located 4 kilometers from Mussorie is also a great place for a picnic. It has a well-kept garden and an artificial lake with boating facilities. Mussorie Lake is another man-made lake, which has boating facilities. The highlight of this lake is the view it offers. Located approximately 6 kilometers from Mussorie, it offers a splendid view of the Doon Valley. The night view from here is spectacular.
Mussorie is a quiet town where life moves at its own pace. One can simply stroll around town and one of the best places to take a walk in Mussorie would be the Camel Back Road. This road is a 3 kilometer long road that stretches from Kulri Bazaar to Library Bazaar. Mussorie still has reflections of its colonial past and the British Cemetery near Camel’s Road is just one example of that. You can also go horseback riding along this path.
Mussorie is a bird watcher’s paradise. Located approximately 11 kilometers from the heart of the city is the Benog Mountain Quail Sanctuary. This bird sanctuary is spread over 339 hectares and permission is required to visit this sanctuary. Van Chetna Kendra is a beautiful park covered in evergreens and pine trees. The highlight of this park is its bird sanctuary, which is home to Himalayan Peafowl, Ghurar and many more species of Himalayan birds.
