Very often people who have small dogs say that their dog does not need training because it is just a small dog. That is not true. Small dogs need training just like big ones and these are just some of the reasons.

1. Because they are always with you

Small dogs seem to always be by your side no matter where you go in the house. That’s why having a trained dog is important for manners.

2. They need house training

Big or small, everyone needs house training. Nothing worse than a little guy who just does business anywhere, anytime. Just because the stacks are smaller doesn’t mean you don’t have to worry about training at home. Keep in mind that the #1 reason dogs of all sizes end up in a shelter is house training issues.

Training your pet establishes the master dog relationship and teaches your dog that you are the master and that there are rules that must be followed.

3. Puppies need manners

There is nothing worse than going to someone’s house who has a dog that jumps and barks and is biting your ankles. We’ve all seen it and we don’t like it. Taking your dog through an obedience training program is important even for the little ones. Don’t forget that they also need proper socialization before 20 weeks so you don’t have aggression problems by the time they are one year old.

4. To save his life

Training your small dog with a few simple exercises can save his life. Teaching the command to come is important when your dog is heading out. If he shows up when you call, then he wasn’t hit by the car.

5. So you can be proud of them

Many people are constantly making excuses for their misbehaving dog. When you stop and think, it’s not the dog’s fault, it’s the owner who just didn’t take the time to train his dog so they would have a pet they could be proud of.

Dog training is not that expensive or difficult to do. Give your dog a 15 minute session a day and you will have a trained dog. Training will also develop that bond with the dog’s master that is so important to having a well-behaved dog that you can truly enjoy.
