Centuries ago, during a war between the gods and the demons, Lord Shiva was absent for a long time. Her wife, Goddess Parvati, afraid of being alone for a long period, used her divine powers and created a son, Ganesh, and gave him the responsibility of protecting the house. When Lord Shiva and his army returned victorious to their home, Parvati was in her bathroom, and Ganesh had been given strict instructions not to allow anyone inside. Angry at Ganesh’s refusal to allow him into the house, Lord Shiva and his army cut off the boy’s head. When Parvati came out of her bathroom, she was shocked and saddened to see her son dead from her. Lord Shiva, to pacify her, proclaimed that Ganesh’s head would be replaced with that of the first creature to climb the hill. Luckily, the first visitor to the hill was an elephant and its head was quickly cut off and placed on top of Lord Ganesh’s, and life was restored to the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. To further pacify his wife and make up for the act of killing his own son, Lord Shiva endowed Ganesh with the powers of a God and blessed him so that from now on no activity begins without invoking the name and blessings from him Since then, it is said, no new project (the inauguration of a store, the opening of a store, the foundation of a building, the entrance to a new home) is considered complete by Hindus without a Ganesh puja.
