Rickey Henderson is known as the robbery man for a reason; the MLB left fielder holds the record for stolen bases (among other things). He is the only player in American League history to steal 100 bases in a single season. What’s even more impressive is that he has done it on three separate occasions. To put his ability in perspective, Henderson’s 1,406 career stolen bases is 50% more than the previous record holder, Lou Brock, who had just 938.

However, Henderson wasn’t just valuable for his heists: the man was a legend in his own right. He was one of the best hitters for the Oakland Athletics and New York Yankees, played on two World Series-winning teams, and holds career top ten records for at-bats, outfield outs, and games, as well as career records. Henderson’s long career began in 1979 when he signed with the Oakland Athletics.
