When you’re thinking about renovating your home, it can be hard to find the time for DIY interior design. However, it may be enough to make a few simple but effective changes to your space that won’t take up much of your precious free time. For your dining room: If you have hardwood floors, or even a laminate floor that you’ve grown bored with, why not create a stencil and paint a design on the floor? Remember to cover the design with a couple of coats if it is a resistant varnish. Then you could also use the stencil to update your closet doors, or even to create interest on a plain wall instead of buying a picture.

For your bathroom: Many bathrooms seem to have a seascape theme. You can update this well-worn look by adding a homemade shell mirror. An interior design project with a day at the beach included!

For your kitchen: In almost every home, the kitchen is a highly used room. It is likely that all family members go through it at some point of the day. Why not create a family bulletin board to aid family memory, and it will also add a useful feature to a blank wall space?

For your living room: If you are looking to add the finishing touch to your living room, you might consider aging any wooden furniture you have in the room. This works especially well with coffee tables and bookshelves.

If you’re looking for a more general overhaul, here are some things you could do to all of your rooms without creating a huge interior design project.

• Change door handles and light switches in all your rooms.

• Add a feature wall.

• Change some of the furniture such as lampshades, curtains, and cushions.
